Esthetic Dentistry 1.0 is a dental training program with lectures and workshops that focus on the growing field of Esthetic Dentistry. The courses in this training program cover the latest topics and developments with practical solutions for dentists who are keen to gain knowledge and tips in Esthetic Dentistry.

Dr Firdaus Hanapiah (photo: right) graduated from University of Otago, New Zealand in 1990. He then returned to Malaysia to take up position as a clinical tutor at the Dept of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya. In 1993 he joined the Eastman Dental Hospital, University College London where he was a part-time honorary senior house officer.
In 1996 he completed MSc in Oral Surgery from the Eastman and also was awarded the Fellowship in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeon, England. He then returned to Malaysia to take a position as a lecturer at the Dept of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya.
He is now in private practice in DEMC Specialist Hospital, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, as the consultant Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon as well as head clinician for the Firdaus and Sharina Dental Clinic and Bangsar Dental Specialist Centre and Consultant OMFS Surgeon for the Smile Clinic Group and Glamsmile Dental Specialist Centre.
Dr Firdaus has placed over 6,000 dental implants, and is a pioneer in the field of virtual surgery in the surgical placement of implant.
Born on July 14, 1980 in Medan-Indonesia, Dr Gary Wijaya is a graduate of University of Sumatera Utara (Medan-Indonesia), where he received his dentist degree in 2004.
After graduation, he focused his career on general dentistry and also helped managed his father’s clinic – Medan Medical Center. He decided to further his knowledge in tooth conservation and was accepted in the postgraduate program in Conservative dentistry and Endodontics in University of Sumatera Utara (Medan-Indonesia) in 2015.
He is very passionate about conserving tooth and esthetic restorations. To support this, his practice is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.
In 2016, he was chosen as one of the top 5 finalists in a prestigious endodontic case report competition, which was judged by world-renowned endodontist, Dr James Guttman. To pass on his passion in dentistry, he also takes part in educating younger dentists as a lecturer in prima hospital, Medan Indonesia.
Talking about esthetic restoration is like diving into a deep sea. There are so many variables, techniques and materials that could frustrate even the experienced dentist. These obstacles have caused some dentists to abandon the importance of esthetic in their restoration completely. The aim of this course is to disclose the truth with a simpler approach to achieve an esthetic restoration.

Dr Kelvin Chua graduated from National University of Singapore in 2011. He spent nearly 4 years working in institutions including National University Hospital of Singapore and Singapore Armed Forces. He has been working in private practice since then. Dr Chua was awarded Invisalign Platinum Status and has obtained certification from Academy of Laser Dentistry and World Clinical Laser Institute, as well as, certification of competency in Botulinum Toxin. He is also a Digital Smile Design member. He was inducted into International College of Dentists as a fellow in 2017.
Part 1: Posterior Composite: Evolution in Adhesive Dentistry and Functional Layering
Dr Chua has attended extensive lectures and workshops on posterior composite and aims to concise the multiple techniques that he has acquired into his lecture. He believes posterior composite is an important practice builder for most GPs and would like to focus on the primary functions of good composite in his lecture.
1. Understand and overcome issues with posterior composite like sensitivity, food stuck and dislodged restorations
2. Better understanding on adhesive dentistry and how to use different generation of bonding systems to your advantage
3. Indications for different functional layering techniques and how to perform some of them clinically
4. How to use posterior composite to market yourself to the patient
Part 2: Digital Smile Design: My Journey
Dr Chua started using concepts from Digital Smile Design (DSD) since 2016 and became a certified DSD member in 2017. Using the concepts from DSD, he has finished several cases of smile makeover and would like to share his learning journey in DSD.
He will also be sharing how he is combining DSD concepts to his strong interest on management of gummy smile.

Dr Kathiravan graduated from University Malaya (Malaysia) more than 20 years ago. After that he received training in orthodontics from his alma mater. He has been in private practice since the first day of graduation. However his keen interest in sharing his knowledge lead him to join University Malaya dental faculty as senior lecturer in year 2008. He went on to undergo training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in University Sains Malaysia. He has published more than 30 international peer reviewed journals and made presentations overseas. Currently he is in private practice in Kuala Lumpur and guides general dental practitioners in orthodontics and oral surgery and implantology in this region.
Dr Kathiravan is currently president of Malaysian Orthodontic Practitioners Association (MOPA).
